Fong Kwok Wah is a Chinese guerrilla fighter from the time of the Second Sino-Japanese War. In 1938, he was fighting with Yamamoto Ichifu, a major of the Imperial Japanese Army, when they were interrupted by Cheung San, the progenitor of all vampires. The two men and a boy named Fuk Sang are bitten by Cheung San, and they become vampires. In present-day 1998, Fong lives in Hong Kong under a new name, Fong Tin Yau. His physical appearance has not changed since 60 years ago. He works as a policeman while Fuk Sang lives together with him and pretends to be his son, who currently attends primary school. Fong meets Ma Siu Ling, the heiress of a clan of ghostbusters who have dedicated themselves to ridding the world of evil supernatural beings. Fong gradually becomes embroiled in a love triangle with Ma and Wong Jan Jan, Ma's close friend and confidante.

Nüwa, the goddess who created humankind in Chinese mythology, feels very disappointed and heartbroken after seeing how her creations have been corrupted by evil, so she plans to end the world on 2 January 2001. Cheung-San, who has lived long before the world came into existence, is in love with Nüwa. Fong, Ma and their allies learn about Nüwa's plan and intend to stop her from ending the world. However, that brings them into conflict with not only the goddess herself, but also Cheung-San and his followers.

At the end of the second season, set in early 2001, Fong Tin-yau, Ma Siu-ling, and their allies succeeded in preventing the goddess Nüwa from ending the world. Three years later, another eschatological event is about to happen. In ancient times, the immortal Fuxi, the King of Humankind, desired to create a paradise called the Eternal Country in the human world. However, he came into conflict with his lover, the goddess Yaochi Shengmu (Holy Mother of the Shining Lake), because the latter's mission is to bring death and disease upon humankind. Fuxi eventually broke up with Yaochi Shengmu and started a new relationship with Chang'e under his alter ego, Houyi. However, he lost Chang'e when she flew to the moon after consuming a magic pill from Yaochi Shengmu. Fuxi blamed Yaochi Shengmu for separating him and Chang'e, and fought with his ex-lover. The elders of the Pangu clan intervened by imprisoning Yaochi Shengmu in Heaven while Fuxi remains in the human world.
